Hole 1 · Par 5

Opening par 5 with a deceptively framed tee shot to a wide fairway, then a second shot that must skirt a fairway bunker before an approach into a tightly guarded green.

From the tee, play towards the line of the distant fairway bunker, then lay up short of the second bunker to leave a comfortable wedge into the green.

Hole 2 · Par 3

A long one-shotter framed by dense casuarina trees, where the exposed green is often buffeted by the prevailing wind.

Trust your yardage, allow for the wind and take enough club to carry all the way to the green surface.

Hole 3 · Par 4

Medium-length par 4 where fairway bunkers pinch the landing area and a precise second shot is required into an amphitheatre-style green.

Favor the side of the fairway away from the bunkers, then take dead aim with your approach as the green offers little margin for error.

Hole 4 · Par 4

The shortest par 4 on the course plays down from an elevated tee to a partially hidden fairway, with water lurking down the right side.

Lay back from the tee with a fairway wood or long iron, playing to the left-center of the fairway to take the water out of play.

Hole 5 · Par 3

A short par 3 that demands a full carry over water to a receptive green set below a vegetated dune that often shields it from the wind.

Commit to the carry over the water, taking enough club and playing a controlled, lower-trajectory shot under the wind.

Hole 6 · Par 5

A downhill par 5 playing past a historic pillbox, where tee shots favoring the right side open up an aggressive second towards a green guarded by water on the left.

Drive to the right half of the fairway to gain the best angle, then only take on the water with your second if you are fully committed.

Hole 7 · Par 4

The stroke index 1 hole plays uphill from the tee to a well-defended fairway, followed by a blind but hazard-free approach into the green.

Focus on solid contact off the tee to reach the crest, then trust your yardage and alignment on the blind second shot.

Hole 8 · Par 4

A naturally rolling fairway tends to feed tee shots from left to right unless you challenge the left-side bunker, which rewards you with a clear view into the green.

Aim towards the left side near the fairway bunker to avoid being pushed right and blocked on your approach.

Hole 9 · Par 4

Played through a narrow chute of casuarina trees, this demanding par 4 calls for two solid shots to reach a huge green flanked by water on the right.

Keep your tee shot straight through the tree-lined corridor, then favor the left side of the green to stay away from the water.

Hole 10 · Par 4

An inviting fairway encourages a bold tee shot on this dogleg, which bends around mature casuarina trees to a long, deep green.

Choose a line that safely skirts the trees on the corner so you have the full depth of the green to work with on your approach.

Hole 11 · Par 3

An uphill par 3 where anything short will be gathered by a cluster of five bunkers guarding the front of the green.

Take at least one extra club and commit to flying the ball onto the green to clear the bunkers.

Hole 12 · Par 5

A heavily bunkered par 5 featuring a dozen sand traps, demanding three well-placed shots to navigate safely and leaving a premium on finishing below the hole on the green.

Treat this as a true three-shot hole, playing conservatively away from bunkers and leaving an uphill putt whenever possible.

Hole 13 · Par 4

A long par 4 with a generous downhill tee shot, but the approach must be very accurate; missing the green can leave a particularly long or awkward putt.

Take advantage of the downhill drive, then choose enough club to get your second shot pin high.

Hole 14 · Par 3

A long, demanding par 3 that rewards a solidly struck tee shot to reach the putting surface.

As Montgomerie suggests, give it everything you have and favor the center of the green.

Hole 15 · Par 4

A short par 4 playing over water, where longer hitters can attempt to drive the green but any mistake will leave a tricky shot into a well-defended target.

Decide on the tee whether to lay up short of the water or take on the carry directly at the green based on your confidence and conditions.

Hole 16 · Par 4

A picturesque par 4 that falls gently downhill with the fairway sloping left to right, where avoiding the right-side fairway bunker is key to attacking a spacious green bordered by bunkers and water.

Aim left of the right fairway bunker off the tee so you can approach the green without the water and sand directly in your line.

Hole 17 · Par 4

Running alongside a vegetated dune, this par 4 requires threading the tee shot between fairway bunkers to set up a precise approach into a well-guarded green.

Choose a club from the tee that keeps you short of or between the fairway bunkers, leaving a full shot into the green.

Hole 18 · Par 5

The longest par 5 on the course plays slightly uphill all the way home, tempting big hitters to reach in two while offering everyone a final birdie chance before the clubhouse.

Unless you are certain you can reach, lay up to your best yardage and rely on a precise wedge to set up a closing birdie putt.

Local rules

Out of bounds is defined by the concrete fence left of hole 1, the outside edge of cart paths left of holes 4, 5, 9 and 10, and beyond the grass edge by the yellow tee on hole 5. Drop zones are provided for red penalty areas on holes 4 and 5, for certain flower beds on holes 11, behind the tee of hole 12, and left of the 18th green, with relief options either by dropping outside the landscaped area or in the marked drop zone (usually with one penalty stroke). For landscape areas behind the greens at holes 2, 5, 9 and 18 and the cart path behind 18, players must take free relief by dropping outside the area or in that hole’s drop zone. Abnormal course conditions include marked NO PLAY ZONE flower beds: green-signed zones at holes 2, 5, 9 and 17 give free relief; red-signed zones at holes 11, 13 and 18 require relief with a penalty stroke. Balls on the embankments of holes 5, 6, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18 lie in red penalty areas and do not receive free relief. Free relief is allowed from immovable obstructions such as cart paths, shelters, drains, signs, sprinklers, electrical fixtures and staked trees, including when these lie in a penalty area (relief must remain in that penalty area). Movable obstructions such as wooden guide stakes and ropes around GUR may be moved with free relief under the Rules.
